Windows XP快捷方式自然不会在Windows Vista或Windows 7中添加快捷方式文件格式的信息。例如，Windows XP快捷方式不会包含VistaAndAboveIDListDataBlock（在section 2.5.11中描述）。同样，Windows Vista快捷方式也不会在Windows 7中添加信息。
